When Jenny told me that she and Drew wanted to fly out from Michigan to elope in the mountains of Washington state, I was in love--this girl was speaking my language. She knew she wanted to hike to the location, and wanted it to feel like them. Even though they live in Michigan now, they had spent two years in Seattle, and for those who have lived in the Pacific Northwest, you know it's not an east place to forget. After tossing around a few ideas for hikes in the North Cascades, we eventually settled on a hike near Mt. Rainier-the quintessential Northwest hiking experience.
When we set out for the day, we knew we were in for a good adventure. None of us were truly sure of the exact location the ceremony would take place. Instead, they completely trusted me and wanted to keep going until we found a spot that I thought would work. Eventually we came to an open area, with a spectacular view of Mt. Rainier that upon seeing we all thought "this is it."
With nothing but the sounds of their vows and the wind filling the air and the huge mountain towering behind them, they committed their lives to each other, and I can't even begin to tell you how moving it was.
